These award winners, just as all preceptors, painstakingly and diligently educate students, inspire professional demeanor, and impart wisdom and experience. This year’s recipients included the Visiting Nurse Association of Manchester and Southern New Hampshire, Michael Tapley, senior pharmacy manager at Omnicare of Maine in Westbrook, ME, and Jason Poquette, outpatient pharmacy director at St. Preceptor Appreciation Day also features a segment devoted to naming recipients of the annual “Preceptor of the Year” awards.

An interactive panel also discussed best safety practices and how to incorporate students into safety initiatives. Educational sessions ranged from experiential education administrative issues to cultural diversity and a pharmacy law update. The 11th annual event took place on Thursday, September 8, and drew over 170 preceptors to the DoubleTree by Hilton Boston – Westborough Hotel.
In a collaborative effort of the Office of Experiential Education and Office of Continuing Education, Preceptor Appreciation Day not only recognizes the contributions of preceptors to student education, but also provides an opportunity for preceptors to enhance their mentoring skills and share best practices. Especially in the world of pharmacy where students undertake clinical rotations under the watchful, experienced eyes of preceptors who nurture each student’s clinical competencies.
